Solid Ash Sofas & Benches
Looped solid-ash frames, drawn from arm to base.
Most sofas hide their frame inside a box and upholster over it. Swell does the opposite: a single looped run of steam-bent ash leaves the floor as a sled base, rises into the arm, carries the length of the back and returns, with the cushions sitting inside the loop. That is why a genuine three-seater at 2400 mm long still reads light in a room, and it is only possible because the frame is solid ash rather than engineered board — nothing else would hold that span in a section that thin.
Choosing a piece.
Swell is 2400 × 1100 mm and needs a clear run of wall plus a little air at each end. In a living room narrower than roughly 3.5 m it will take over; in that case a pair of Heron lounge chairs, or the Cove bench, will do more with less floor. The sled base also spreads load rather than concentrating it on four feet, which is worth knowing on stone, tile or a delicate floor finish.
The benches solve the problems a sofa cannot. Bank is a slim upholstered seat on tapered ash legs — 1300 × 400 mm, at standard seat height — for the foot of a bed, the long side of a dining table, or specified in multiples for hospitality. Ripple is its opposite: no upholstery at all, with three shallow ring-pools carved by hand into a solid ash top, each one slightly different because they are cut rather than machined.
