Solid Ash Bookshelves & Media Consoles

Shelving is the category where solid wood earns its cost most obviously. A shelf in engineered board bows under books within a few years across any span over about 800 mm; a shelf in solid ash does not. Every shelf in this group is solid stock, which is why Eddy carries a full 1200 mm span and Reef holds books at 2100 mm tall without a back panel to stiffen it.

Choosing a piece.

Eddy and Reef solve different problems. Eddy is open on all four sides with rounded ladder uprights and shelves stepping between them at uneven intervals — freestanding, finished all round, and usable as a room divider that separates two areas without blocking light. Reef leans against the wall, raked back and held square by a single pair of crossed spars at the rear, which is the only bracing in the piece and the reason it can be built this slim at that height.

For media, Shoal is long and low — 1800 × 400 mm at just 400 mm high, so a television sits at eye level from a seated position and a large screen does not overhang the ends. Quay is the taller option at 450 mm, with open bays, one drawer, and a blackened steel base that lifts the ash carcass clear of the floor. Shoal is the better television console; Quay reads more as a sideboard and works in a dining space as well.

All four are solid ash in a walnut finish, with the open grain left legible under the polish. Cable management, fixings and dimensional changes can be specified as made-to-order details. In stock and ready to ship, or made to your space in the finish you choose.
